Foreign Minister chairs Human Rights High Coordination Committee meeting

Manama, April 27 (BNA) Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain will continue to promote and protect human rights and guarantee political, civil, economic, social and cultural freedoms in accordance with the vision of His Majesty the King. He expressed his thanks and gratitude to His Majesty the King and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for their continued interest in respecting rights, human dignity and fundamental freedoms in a framework of equality and equality. He was speaking while chairing the 32nd meeting of the Higher Coordination Committee for Human Rights from a distance.

He expressed his thanks to the members of the committee, praising their efforts in partnership with the legislative authority and civil society in preparing the national human rights plan, and discussing the first national report before the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights last February in Geneva, and their success in performing their national duties.

The session discussed Bahrain’s preparations to submit the fourth national report to the universal periodic review of human rights, before discussing it next November.

Bahrain achieved 90% of the recommendations of the previous report, and announced its candidacy for membership in the Human Rights Council for the years 2023-2025, for the fourth time in its history.

He affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s keenness on positive and constructive cooperation with the Council, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the relevant treaty bodies.

The Human Rights Department of the Ministry has prepared a guide on human rights obligations in the areas of education, health, housing, women’s and children’s rights, the rights of the elderly and people with disabilities, combating human trafficking and other areas of sustainable development.

Dr. Al-Zayani affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain will continue to consolidate its achievements in the field of human rights in accordance with principles stemming from the values ​​of the Bahraini society, its religious and civilization identity and its authentic culture in consolidating tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

He affirmed that Bahrain’s policies in line with the Constitution and the National Action Charter reflect its high position as a model of good governance and respect for public rights and freedoms.
