FIFA clears Brazil-born forward João Pedro to play for Italy

Zurich, January 5 (BNA): The International Football Association Board (FIFA) announced on Wednesday that Brazilian-born Cagliari striker Joao Pedro will represent Italy.

Joao Pedro needed FIFA’s permission to change national eligibility after playing for Brazil at the under-17 level.

He is 30 years old two weeks before Italy’s next World Cup qualifier on March 24. And play the European champions at home against North Macedonia. The winner qualifies to play in Portugal or Turkey after five days.

If selected, Joao Pedro could join fellow Brazilian-born Jorginho, Emerson Palmieri and Rafael Toloi on the squad.

Joao Pedro has already obtained Italian citizenship while playing for Cagliari since 2014.

He scored nine goals in 19 games this season for a team struggling in 19th place in Serie A.
