February records seventh highest temperature since 1902

Manama, March 7 (BNA) February 2022 was slightly warmer than usual in temperatures and below average for precipitation.

The Meteorological Department said the average temperature for the month was 19.3 degrees Celsius, which is 0.9 degrees Celsius more than the long-term normal for February. This records as the seventh highest average temperature for February since 1902. Note that the highest average monthly temperature for February was 21.5°C recorded in 1963.

The average maximum temperature for the month was 22.6°C, 0.6°C above the long-term normal. Note that the highest monthly average maximum temperature for February was 25.2°C recorded in 1963.

The highest temperature reached 28.4 degrees Celsius on February 19 at Bahrain International Airport but recorded 29.8 degrees Celsius on February 26 at Bahrain International Circuit.

The average minimum temperature for the month was 16.4°C, which is 1.0°C higher than the long-term normal. Note that the highest monthly average minimum temperature for February was 18.3 °C recorded in 1963.

The lowest temperature was 13.2 degrees Celsius on February 10 at Bahrain International Airport, but 11.3 degrees Celsius was recorded on February 9 at Durrat Al Bahrain.

Note that the lowest temperature recorded at Bahrain International Airport for the month of February was 7.2 degrees Celsius, on February 11, 1949 and February 8, 1950.

The average relative humidity for February was 64% while the average maximum relative humidity was 82% and the average minimum relative humidity was 43%. The highest relative humidity was 95% on February 14 and the lowest relative humidity was 22% on February 16.

Only trace amounts of rain were recorded on February 12 at Bahrain International Airport. Note that the average long-term total precipitation for February is 13 mm and the highest monthly rainfall during February at Bahrain International Airport was 106.8 mm, which occurred in 1988.

February 2022 was the second sunniest February since records began in 1968. The total sunshine hours for this month were 271 hours and were only surpassed by February 2016, which was 287.1 hours.

The average wind speed for February was 10 knots. The prevailing wind was 48% from the northwest direction. High winds reached 31 knots on February 5, 12 and 21 at Bahrain International Airport but reached 32 knots on February 12 at Bahrain International Circuit. East and southeast winds accounted for 21% of the observed percentage.

Fog spots were reported on February 14th. Visibility decreased to 1,000 meters at Bahrain International Airport.
