F1 Bahrain GP 2023 truly global with drivers flying flags of 33 nations


Manama, March 2 (BNA): Bahrain will feature in the Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix for Gulf Air 2023, drivers flying the flags of no less than 33 countries from five continents.

The Formula One spectacle this weekend is set to be a truly global event as nearly 90 racers will take to the circuit in the ‘Home of Motorsport in the Middle East’ on March 3-5.

F1 features 20 of the world’s biggest motor racing stars, while there will be 22 competitors in the FIA ​​Formula 2 Championship, 29 in the FIA ​​Formula 3 Championship and another 18 in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Middle East.

The majority of drivers come from Europe, representing countries including Britain, Finland, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Monaco, Denmark, Germany, Norway, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Estonia, Sweden, Italy, Bulgaria and Poland.

North America features drivers from the United States, Canada, Mexico and Barbados, while South America sees competitors from Brazil, Argentina and Colombia.

There are also drivers from Australia, while Asia is represented by competitors from Japan, Thailand, China, India, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain.

The host country is represented on the track by Sheikh Salman bin Rashid Al Khalifa, a talented racer with many years of experience, who will be competing in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Middle East.

Sheikh Salman excelled in the British Formula 3 championship earlier in his football career, and was the 2010/2011 champion of the Porsche One-Model Series, which is based in the Bahrain Information Center, when it was known as the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East.

This season marks Sheikh Salman’s return to competitive track racing after an absence of more than eight years.

The 2023 Gulf Air F1 Bahrain Grand Prix opens the new FIA F1 World Championship this weekend and will be the 19th edition of the world famous F1 desert race.
