Tirana, May 26 (BNA): Emotional Jose Mourinho celebrated what he described as a historic achievement after becoming the second coach to win five major European titles after Giovanni Trapattoni, to lead his Roma team to the European League title.
Mourinho, who previously won the Champions League, European League and European Cup, completed a unique set of European titles as Roma beat Feyenoord 1-0 in Tirana to ensure they could add the inaugural Conference League to their group.
These are the five European finals for Porto, Inter Milan, Manchester United and Roma since 2003 in which Mourinho coached and won the cup five times.
“The wonderful thing about my career is that apart from the Europa League with Manchester United, doing it with Porto, Inter and Roma is very, very special,” Mourinho said.
“Winning is one thing when everyone expects it, when you make the investments to win, but winning when something feels timeless, is really special is another.
“That’s still in the history of Rome, but also in my history. I’m just told, Sir Alex (Ferguson) and Giovanni Trapattoni, I’ve won titles in three different decades. It makes me feel a little bit old, but it’s good for my career.”
It marked a brilliant end to his first season in the Italian capital of Mourinho, having led his team to a sixth place in Serie A this season.
The Portuguese has no plans to look for new challenges, as he is already looking forward to next season with the club.
Mourinho added: “I will stay now, and there is no doubt that I will.” “Even if some rumors arise, I just want to stay in Rome.
“We have to understand what our owners, who are great people, want to do next season, because that is history, but we can build a really strong project with honest professionals.
“Of course, I feel like a Romanista, but that might be my way of working. I’m a Porto fan, an Inter fan, a Chelsea fan, I’m crazy about Real Madrid, and now I’m a Roma fan, I belong to all those clubs because we spent these moments together” .
