Elon Musk says Twitter will revise how it verifies users

SAN FRANCISCO, OCTOBER 30 (BUS): Elon Musk said in a Twitter post on Sunday, just days after taking charge of one of the world’s most influential social media platforms, that Twitter will revise its user verification process.

“The entire verification process is being renewed at the moment,” Reuters quoted Musk as saying in his tweet, without giving further details.

On Sunday, tech newsletter Platformer reported, citing two people familiar with the matter, that Twitter is considering charging a blue coveted check mark to verify the identity of an account holder.

Users will have to sign up for Twitter Blue at $4.99 per month or lose their verified badges if the project progresses, according to the report.

Tesla Inc’s CEO hasn’t made a final decision and the project could still be scrapped but according to the Platformer, verification is likely to become part of Twitter Blue.

Separately, The Verge reported Sunday that Twitter will increase the price of a subscription to Twitter Blue, which also verifies users, from $4.99 a month to $19.99 a month, citing internal correspondence they’ve seen.

Twitter Blue launched in June last year as the platform’s first subscription service, which offers exclusive access to premium features on a monthly subscription basis including the option to edit tweets.

The tweet editing feature was also made available earlier this month after Musk launched a Twitter poll in April asking his millions of followers if they wanted an edit button. More than 70% said yes.

Musk has also requested that registered users who visit Twitter be redirected to the Explore page displaying trending tweets, Vergereport reported Sunday, citing employees who were familiar with the matter.
