Kevin Durant scored 18 of his 34 first-half points to take control of Brooklyn in the Nets’ 129-100 win over 76 on Thursday night in Simmons’ return to Philadelphia.
Seth Curry added 24 points and Kyrie Irving added 22 points. They entered eighth in the East, but looked like a legitimate contender in the conference while outperforming poorly 76ers for third.
Joel Embiid scored 27 points and 12 rebounds for 76 seconds, and James Harden finished with only 11 points. This was Philadelphia’s first loss in six games with Harden in the squad.
The match was dubbed “Boo Ben” night, but the raucous fans instead turned their displeasure onto the home team when the 76ers went into the locker room trailing 72-51 and again when Brooklyn took a stunning 32-point lead in the third quarter.
Simmons, in a designer hockey jersey and flashy jewellery, watched from the bench, likely delighting in the stinger he walked away from.
The three-time All-Star is continuing to recover from a back injury that has kept him sidelined since being replaced by Harden in an impressive deal on Deadline Trade.
