Di Maria leads PSG to 2-1 comeback win over Lille

Paris, October 30 (BNA): Angel Di Maria equalized and then scored the winning goal himself to lead defending champions Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 on Friday to continue their lead at the top of the French Ligue 1. 10 points.

The Associated Press (AP) reported that Canadian striker Jonathan David gave Lille the lead with a first goal in the 31st minute, but Di Maria made the difference in the second half.

The Argentine striker made a cut pass for Marquinhos, who hit the net from six yards in the 74th minute. Di Maria then played a double match with Neymar before burying the ball in the bottom corner in the 88th minute.

Lille dominated the first half, creating three big chances for just one for short-handed PSG, who were without a handful of players. And the visitors threatened in the opening minute to hit Paris Saint-Germain at breakfast. Jonathan Aykon overtook Presnel Kimpembe to create a low cross for Burak Yilmaz, whose effort was blocked by Gianluigi Donnarumma. Yilmaz then found Ikon at 14, but the Lille winger missed the target from 12 yards as he was put off by Thilo Kehrer.

Lionel Messi was skeptical due to a small muscle problem but he started the match with PSG. However, Messi suffered in the role of the false nine, as he shot away after a cross from Di Maria in the 30th minute, and was replaced by Mauro Icardi in the first half.

“This was a precautionary measure,” Paris Saint-Germain coach Mauricio Pochettino said. “He couldn’t keep playing. I hope it won’t be a big problem and he can be available for the next match.”

Lille opened the scoring by playing from behind on the 31st. The guests moved the ball from the right wing to the left, as Yilmaz rounded Kehrer to cut the ball back to David, who led a first attempt into the top corner.

Already the top scorer in Ligue 1 this season, David raised his tally to eight goals.

The Parisian’s only good chance in the first half was with complicated passes. Jorginho Wijnaldum fed Di Maria, who curled in from a tight angle in the 40th minute.

Lille had the opportunity to double the lead after the break. Akon slipped through a ball for David, who was denied by Donnarumma at 47. Then Lille hit Paris Saint-Germain in the first half in the 56th minute when he fed David Yilmaz, whose shot by Donnarumma.

With Lille exploiting the space behind the PSG players, coach Mauricio Pochettino made a tactical switch and replaced Kahrer and Juan Bernat with Colin Dagba and Nuno Mendes in the 65th minute.

“I think it’s good to be flexible. Sometimes the plan doesn’t work,” Pochettino said. “I think, little by little, maybe it’s an option that we need to think about and try to adapt to the team.”

Di Maria was PSG’s biggest threat all along, forcing goalkeeper Ivo Grbic to parry his long-range shot in the 59th minute. The Argentine then crossed for Icardi, who crossed over the bar in the 73rd minute, before Marquinhos set up the equalizer a minute later.

Paris Saint-Germain finished stronger and Neymar played Icardi clean in the 85th minute, but Gerbic saved with his foot. Neymar once again showed his clever touch when he got a pass from Di Maria in the area and controlled it with one foot before playing it again in the way of the Argentine, who scored with a low shot to maintain the perfect record for Paris Saint-Germain at home. The Parisians have won all their home games at the Parc des Princes in all competitions this season.
