Manama, March 6 (BNA): Cybersecurity is among the main topics discussed by participants in the Council of Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly (CPUNGA) in Bahrain.

The CPUNGA meeting, which is being held for the first time outside the United States, will provide an opportunity for participants to deliberate on global issues, struggles, and challenges faced by the global community.

The meeting was opened by Sheikha Haya Rashed Al Khalifa, President of the 61st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), and over two days delegates will address key issues including the challenges posed by cybersecurity.

“We are holding the meeting outside of New York for the first time since CPUNGA was formed nearly 25 years ago,” CPUNGA Chairman Han Sung-soo told Bahrain News Agency on the sidelines of the CPUNGA meeting.

“For the past two and a half decades, we haven’t had any activity outside of the United States like we always meet at the United Nations, New York. This is our first meeting outside of the United States and that’s why this is a very historic moment for all of us.”

He expressed his gratitude to the Government of Bahrain for hosting this meeting, and praised Sheikha Haya bin Rashid Al Khalifa for her leadership as President of the 64th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

“With this in mind, the Bahrain meeting will open a window of opportunity for the CPUNGA and we hope that these meetings will take place in different places around the world in the future,” he said.
