London, Feb. 26 (BNA): Liverpool missed the chance to win a third consecutive Premier League win for only the second time this season with their 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah were frustrated by the woodwork at Selhurst Park as Jurgen Klopp’s Reds shared the spoils with Patrick Vieira’s Eagles.
After the dramatic collapse of the Champions League that resulted in a 5-2 loss to Real Madrid on Tuesday, the visitors fell short of a win that would have helped heal those wounds. And, in the midst of a campaign that continues to see a lackluster performance, the Merseyside side have dropped further points in their bid for European football next season, with Cody Gacbo rejecting an excellent chance late on.
Having made a blistering start to their exploits in midweek, Liverpool initially seemed to be feeling the effects of a continental hangover.
The away team struggled to be a major threat despite their control of the ball, with Jota’s powerful header in the 23rd minute coming closest to a breakthrough.
Palace almost got them fired when they hit the woodwork themselves four minutes after half-time, with Jean-Philippe Matita hitting the crossbar from close range.
Liverpool’s opponents proved to be the crossbar shortly after the interval, as Salah slammed a successive try against it. Gakpo could have clinched the title in the 81st minute but the Netherlands international fouled his lines after tapping in Salah’s deciding ball as Liverpool ultimately failed to find a way through.
