“Consumer Protection” initiative launched

Manama, June 4 (BNA): The Ministry of Industry and Trade announced the launch of the (consumer protection) initiative for commercial establishments concerned with the sale and trade of commodities and food products in the markets of all governorates of the Kingdom from June to December 2023.

Shaikh Hamad bin Salman Al Khalifa, Assistant Undersecretary for Internal and External Trade, said that this initiative launched by the Consumer Protection Services Department at the ministry confirms the department’s keenness to provide more food commodities and products to achieve the social responsibility of the private sector. Towards consumers, citizens and residents of Bahrain.

The Assistant Undersecretary explained that the Consumer Protection Services Department designed this initiative with the aim of reducing the price of 10 food commodities from 15 by no less than 10%, with the participation of main commodities and food stores by offering the lowest price for commodities. And food products for consumers, citizens and residents in the Kingdom at reasonable prices.

Hamad confirmed that the names of commercial establishments participating in the initiative will be published on the official websites of the ministry. Lists of commodities and food products included in the initiative will also be reviewed to facilitate consumer access to commodities and prices.

He called on all commercial establishments involved in selling and trading commodities and food products to take advantage of the opportunity to participate in the initiative to enhance the principle of consumer protection and encourage competition.
