Conference promoting religious freedom opens in Bahrain

Manama, May 30 (BNA) The Conference on Promoting Freedom of Religion was inaugurated today under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

The three-day conference is held under the slogan “Expanding the tent… Freedom of religion and belief.”

The Kingdom of Bahrain will host the conference in cooperation with the European Union. An exhibition was also opened on the sidelines of the three-day conference.

The opening session was attended by Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, senior invitees, officials and participants.

“I was amazed when I learned that the first church was built in Bahrain since 1904, and during the previous years I found nothing in this country but love, cohesion and harmony among all, and this is what made Bahrain a leading country in this field, without any other country.”

She pointed out that there are many different temples, churches and places of worship, which indicates that coexistence and freedom of religions and beliefs are deeply rooted in society since ancient times.

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Walid Al-Manea, highlighted Bahrain’s approach during the outbreak of COVID-19, emphasizing its humanitarian path in protecting public health in the face of the epidemic.

He pointed out that “the Kingdom of Bahrain dealt during the epidemic with equality between citizens and residents,” noting that everyone benefited from services and vaccinations without exception.

The French Ambassador, Jerome Cochard, stressed the importance of rejecting hatred and promoting peace that revives countries and contributes to their development.
