London, June 6 (BNA): British Prime Minister Boris Johnson survived a no-confidence vote on Monday and won enough support from his Conservative Party to remain in office.
The charismatic leader struggled to turn the page on revelations that he and his staff had repeatedly held parties that violated COVID-19 restrictions they had imposed on others.
Support has weakened among fellow conservative lawmakers as some see the leader, famous for his ability to reach out to voters, increasingly as a hindrance rather than an asset in elections.
Johnson has the support of 211 out of 359 Conservative MPs, more than the simple majority needed to stay in power, but still a major rebellion of 148 MPs. With no prominent candidate to succeed him, most political observers expected he would defeat the challenge, the Associated Press said.
