BRCS, Jordan Red Crescent Society discuss cooperation

Manama, May 17 (BNA): The Bahrain Red Crescent Society discussed strengthening cooperation with the Jordan Red Crescent Society in various fields of relief and humanitarian work. This includes consulting and coordinating their response to regional and international relief appeals, participating in events within the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, as well as training and capacity building for volunteers. The cooperation also includes providing assistance to Syrian refugees in the Zaatari camp in Jordan and addressing other related issues.

This came when a delegation from the Bahraini Red Crescent participated in the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Jordanian Red Crescent in Amman, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The Bahraini delegation consisted of Mubarak Al-Hadi, Secretary General of the Bahrain Red Crescent Society, and Dr. Fawzi Amin, member of the Society’s Board of Directors.

During the event, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Medical University of Bahrain (RCSI-Bahrain) was honored for its continuous support and provision of healthcare to refugees in Jordan. This was part of their collaboration with the Jordan Red Crescent Society, the Bahrain Red Crescent Society, and the Child Life Foundation operation. The award was received by Prof. Sameer Al-Atoum, President of the Royal College of Surgeons in Bahrain.

Al-Hadi stressed the importance of such participation in facilitating cooperation between the Red Crescent and Red Cross Societies in humanitarian and charitable work. These efforts aim to assist individuals affected by natural disasters and conflicts, and those in need of relief and humanitarian assistance globally. Participation includes providing social services and assistance, training and preparing volunteers, promoting international humanitarian law, and other related fields.

The Bahrain Red Crescent Society signed a memorandum of understanding with the Jordan Red Crescent Society, the Medical University of Bahrain, and the Operation Child Life Foundation. This memorandum aims to coordinate community, charitable and educational activities for the benefit of individuals and communities at the local, regional and global levels. Collaboration includes faculty and student exchanges, collaborative research projects, lectures, seminars, sharing of information, academic materials, capacity building to reach those in need, and provision of comprehensive, high-quality, and rapid support for relief response.
