Boosting cooperation with regional, international parliamentary organisations stressed

Manama, December 13 (BNA) The Acting Secretary-General of the House of Representatives, Dr. Yasser Saqr Al-Shirawi, praised Bahrain’s active role in strengthening regional and international relations through parliamentary diplomacy. He stressed the Kingdom’s efforts to enhance regional and international peace and security, and to adopt initiatives to serve humanity.

This came during a meeting today with the Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Martin Chungong. They discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the general secretariats of the House of Representatives and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Al-Shirawi stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union and regional and international institutions and parliaments on issues of common interest.

For his part, the Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union thanked the Acting Secretary-General of the House of Representatives for the meeting, praising Bahrain’s democratic and parliamentary experience thanks to the directives and patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He also praised the royal efforts in promoting tolerance, coexistence and equality among all components of society.

The Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union stressed the importance of his visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain to learn about its parliamentary and democratic experience. He referred to the Kingdom’s rich experience in this field and in the protection of human rights. He stressed the keenness of the General Secretariat of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to build strong relations with the legislative authority in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
