Boat capsizes in Pakistan kills at least 20

Multan, July 19 (BNA): A passenger boat carrying nearly 100 wedding party members capsized in the fast-flowing Indus river in eastern Punjab province, killing at least 20 women and children.

65 people, including the groom, were rescued, and nearly 24 people, including children, are still missing.


The cause of the accident was not immediately known, but the boat appeared to be overcrowded.

The Associated Press reported that the bodies that were rescued were women and children.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed his grief and sorrow over the accident and called on the authorities to do their utmost to rescue the passengers who are still missing.
