Bayern still fighting but season ‘unsatisfactory,’ Tuchel says

Munich, May 26 (BNA): Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel said today, Friday, that the Bayern Munich season was disappointing, but that the players will do everything they can in their last match, even if Borussia Dortmund are the league leaders on their way to winning the German League title.

According to Reuters, the defending champions face Cologne on Saturday and need to win while also hoping Borussia Dortmund fail to beat Mainz 05.

Bayern are two points behind Dortmund going into the final round but have a better goal difference.

“I don’t have any message for Dortmund,” Tuchel told a news conference. “We have our own business. We stumbled many times.”

“Now we will try to finish the race and give everything, but this is no longer a satisfactory season. We don’t have to look forward to the next game because for us it is clear that first we have to win our game.”

The Bavarians have won the last 10 league titles, but could see their dominance in the Bundesliga come to an end, leaving them trophy-less after Tuchel’s surprise arrival in late March to replace Julian Nagelsmann.

Bayern have had little success under Tuchel so far, crashing out of the German Cup and Champions League at the quarter-final stage and losing their lead in the Bundesliga on the penultimate round of last week with a shock 3-1 loss at home to RB Leipzig.

Tuchel, who led Chelsea to win the 2021 Champions League title and also coached Paris Saint-Germain, is facing increasing pressure, amid fans’ dissatisfaction with Nagelsmann’s sudden departure when the team was still competing for three titles.

Some football experts in Germany point out that Bayern are playing worse under Tuchel than they are under Nagelsmann.

“Everyone can have their opinion but it’s hard to argue against it,” Tuchel said when asked about it.

“We are not satisfied with the results. We are not satisfied with the way we play. We have to be more dominant, be more flexible, create more chances and make fewer mistakes,” he said.

“We are not able to do that at the moment, so we have no argument to contribute to this discussion.”

The manager has had some good news with in-form striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting back in the squad and ready to strengthen his front line.
