Bayern Munich stay a point clear at the top with 3-0 win over Bochum

Berlin, Feb. 11 (BNA): Bayern Munich scored a 3-0 victory over Bochum on Saturday to maintain a one-point lead in the Bundesliga as they prepared for Tuesday’s Champions League last-16 match against Paris Saint-Germain.

Thomas Müller, who became Bayern Munich’s record player with his 428th league appearance, chased a clearance from his own half and latched onto a weak cross from Bochum defender Sidi Janko to open the scoring in the 41st minute.

Leon Goretzka should have doubled his lead in the first half but sent a header on the rebound wide off the post from two metres, Reuters reports.

Then Bayern’s Jan Sommer made a superb one-handed save to tip Philip Hoffmann’s header wide in the 52nd minute.

But the hosts opened the back burners to score twice and end the game.

Substitute Kingsley Coman gave Bayern two goals four minutes after entering, as he hit the ball from the legs of goalkeeper Manuel Reimann in the 64th minute, and Serge Gnabry hit a penalty kick for the third time after 10 minutes to seal the victory.

Bayern has 43 points, one ahead of second-placed Union Berlin and 2-1 at home to Leipzig at the end of the match.

The Bavarians could have added a few more goals at the end with 17-year-old Arjun Ibrahimovic, coming on as a late substitute, creating some fine chances.
