Manama, March 4 (BNA): At the invitation of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Kingdom of Bahrain is hosting the meeting of the Council of Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly (UNCPGA), which will be held. From March 6-7, it will be chaired by Dr. Han Seung-soo, President of the UNCPGA.
The council, which includes Sheikha Haya bint Rashid Al Khalifa, President of the 61st session of the United Nations General Assembly, discusses key issues on the agenda of the United Nations General Assembly.
The session will also discuss other related issues, including cybersecurity and combating cybercrime, based on the Council’s role as a permanent leadership forum to promote pluralism and international cooperation, with the aim of consolidating the goals of the United Nations, foremost of which is international and national security.
The President of the 77th session of the General Assembly, Šaba Krusi, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, will meet and address the session, in the presence of Jan Kavan, Vice-President of the Council and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
The Council of Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly met at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on October 20, 2022, within the framework of work to develop its work and enhance its contribution to efforts to effectively address the challenges facing humanity.
During the meeting, she decided to institutionalize her role, noting the importance of accelerating the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as a means to face multiple challenges.
He also affirmed his commitment to support the efforts of the President of the United Nations General Assembly and the Secretary-General to reform the international organization so that it can face the challenges of the twenty-first century and beyond.
