Bahrain proud to host landmark CPUNGA meeting: Shaikha Haya

Manama, March 6 (BNA): Bahrain has emerged as a commendable country for hosting the Council of Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly (CPUNGA), further cementing the Kingdom’s position as a leading member of the United Nations.

On the sidelines of the opening of the two-day meeting, Sheikha Haya bint Rashid Al Khalifa, the 64th President of the United Nations General Assembly, told the Bahrain News Agency that the council consists of all the presidents of the United Nations General Assembly.

“I am proud that we are hosting this meeting for the first time outside of New York in the Middle East region in Bahrain,” she said.

“The agenda focuses on key issues including politics, conflict and cyber security and reflects the agenda of the UN General Assembly for this year. Some of the issues we are dealing with at this time are technical crimes, human rights, cyber security and many other issues that ensued from the discussions. Recommendations are in each area of ​​the agenda.”

It is important that this type of United Nations meeting held here will provide an opportunity for delegates to witness for themselves the democratic steps that Bahrain has witnessed over the decades, as well as the development of women, social development, and the situation. She said.

Sheikha Haya said, “We will show them everything about Bahrain, and we will tell them about the development and success of Bahrain, as the Kingdom thrives on the lofty values ​​of the United Nations.”
