Bahrain joins IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook 2022 for first time, ranks in top 10 globally in 56 indicators


Manama, June 15 (BNA) Bahrain appeared in the World Competitiveness Yearbook 2022 issued by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) and the Global Competitiveness Center.


The inclusion of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the yearbook is a testament to the Kingdom’s commitment to fostering a competitive environment necessary for a prosperous life and a prosperous business environment.


The Global Competitiveness Yearbook consists of four factors: economic performance, government efficiency, business efficiency, and infrastructure, which in turn include 20 sub-factors covering 333 indicators of competitiveness.


The country rankings are based on solid data as well as an executive opinion survey published to upper-middle-level departments in the private sector.


The Kingdom was ranked among the top 10 countries globally in 56 indicators in various areas, including workforce skills, gender equality, safety and social harmony.


The results indicated that Bahrain has a labor force with competitive skills. As such, Bahrain ranked fourth in having competent senior managers, fifth in skilled labour, seventh in financial skills, seventh in qualified engineers, seventh in international experience, and eighth in highly skilled foreign staff.


Social cohesion in Bahrain is ranked eighth globally, reflecting a harmonious society of Bahrainis and residents. The Kingdom ranked first globally in the homicide index, in contrast to the lowest premeditated murder rates.


The Kingdom also achieved a high rank in the indicators related to gender equality, which reflects the important role that women play in the workforce. The Kingdom ranked third in the world in the percentage of women in managerial positions and the share of women with academic degrees.

One-third of the data used in the Global Competitiveness Yearbook was collected through a perception-based survey completed by high-level mid-level managers in the private sector.


The executive opinion poll revealed the most important attractiveness factors in Bahrain.


Business friendly environment, skilled workforce, reliable infrastructure, open and positive attitudes, and efficient government were the top five factors that make Bahrain an attractive environment for businesses and individuals alike.
