Bahrain elected ITU Council member for 2023-2026

Bucharest, October 3 (BNA) The Kingdom of Bahrain was elected as a member of the International Telecommunication Union Council for the 2023-2026 term.


Bahrain will be one of the representatives of Asia and Australia (Area E), including 13 seats, on the 48-member ITU Council.


On this occasion, the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mohammed bin Thamer Al-Kaabi, extended his sincere congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, noting that the continuous support of the Kingdom allowed it to win membership in the Federation Council.


He pointed out that the vote in favor of Bahrain reflects the confidence of the international community in its leading role, noting that the Kingdom will contribute to strengthening the work of the International Telecommunication Union in the fields of communications and information technology.


The Federation Council acts as the Union’s governing body in between sessions of the Plenipotentiary Conference, and is the supreme governing body that meets every four years to determine the Union’s strategic directions and budget plans.


The Council supervises the activities, policies and strategies of the Union, manages working groups on topics determined by the Commissioner or Council, and prepares draft strategic and financial plans for the Union for submission to the next delegate.
