BACA President hails efforts to conserve heritage sites

Manama, Mar. 20 (BNA): The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities honored a number of citizens residing near archaeological sites.

Collaborators with the Authority within the community partnership initiative “Friends of Antiquities” were also honored during the ceremony held at the Bahrain National Museum.

Sheikh Khalifa bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the British Airports Authority, received the honorees and praised the efforts made by the local community and the cooperation in preserving heritage and archaeological sites.

He pointed out that “the authority seeks to involve the local community and all concerned parties in efforts to preserve Bahrain’s antiquities and national antiquities in accordance with international standards and guidelines approved by international organizations such as UNESCO.”

The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities launched the “Friends of Antiquities” community partnership initiative last year with the aim of enhancing the spirit of cooperation and joint work with the local community to preserve Bahrain’s archaeological heritage.
