BAC hosts awareness lecture on World Earth Day

Manama, April 28 / BNA / The Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) hosted a lecture for employees entitled “Invest in Our Planet” to raise awareness of the importance of environmental protection and sustainable development, affirming its commitment to environmental sustainability. Earth Day this year.


The session was chaired by Abdullah Janahi, Head of Development and Technical Affairs at Bahrain Airport Center, and the session was moderated by Environmental Engineer Dana Ismail.


The session highlighted key environmental issues that require the contribution of all employees, and included a presentation on the sustainable architecture of the new passenger building and efficient systems, which reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 12,565 tons annually.


The session concluded with a presentation on how employees can help protect the environment at work and at home, including adopting green lifestyles.

We are constantly working to reduce our carbon footprint and encourage employees to play a proactive role in the global fight against climate change wherever possible,” Al Janahi said.


“Through the airport modernization program, we have made significant improvements that reduce the airport’s environmental impact. For example, the new terminal building is LEED Gold certified, making it the largest green building in the Kingdom.”


BIA continues to work to become a zero-carbon facility and is registered with the Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Carbon Accreditation Program. The program is the only institutionally approved carbon management certification standard for airports and recognizes facilities that successfully manage and reduce their carbon emissions. The BIA recently achieved Level 3 “improvement”, which brings it closer to its goal.
