Arsenal beats Palace 4-1 to extend Premier League lead

London, March 19 (BNA) Bukayo Saka scored two goals as Arsenal moved closer to the English Premier League title by defeating Crystal Palace 4-1 on Sunday.

Arsenal is eight points ahead of current champion Manchester City, after playing one more match, according to the Associated Press.

Palace, who sacked their manager Patrick Vieira this week, have seen relegation fears come their way after a winless run of 13 matches in all competitions.

Saka scored twice and set up Gabriel Martinelli’s opener, becoming the first player in the Premier League this season to reach double figures for both goals and assists.

Granit Xhaka was also on the record sheet. Martinelli opened the scoring in the 28th minute, after passing through Saka’s cross.

Saka added the second goal in the 43rd minute, after he picked up a pass from Ben White and finished with Palace goalkeeper Joe Whitworth.

Then Saka saw a try cleared off the line as Arsenal started the second half in the same dominant fashion in which they finished the first.

Xhaka made it 3-0 in the 55th minute after exchanging passes with Leandro Trossard and firing in from close range.

Schlupp pulled one back for Palace in the 63rd minute, but any thoughts of an unlikely comeback were ended when Saka scored again in the 74th minute.

Palace are three points clear of the relegation zone, but fellow strugglers Bournemouth, West Ham, Leicester, Nottingham Forest and Leeds have games in hand.
