AFC President Shaikh Salman pledges further Asian football progress

Manama, Feb. 2 (BNA): The re-elected President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa pledged that the development of member associations and regional federations would remain at the core of the federation’s endeavors.

“As we look forward, let me assure you that the AFC will continue to put the development of its member associations and regional associations at the center of our efforts,” Sheikh Salman said at the 33rd AFC Congress in Manama.

The Congress re-elected Sheikh Salman as President of the Asian Confederation by acclamation for a third term of four years until 2027.

Sheikh Salman, who took over as the 10th President of the Asian Football Confederation in 2013, was re-elected unopposed as President of the AFC and Vice President of FIFA in 2015.

In 2018, he was appointed as the first vice-president of FIFA, and one year later, he was again re-elected unopposed to both positions for four-year terms.

“I would like to thank you all once again for your overwhelming support for my candidacy to lead Asian football for another four years,” Sheikh Salman told Congress after his re-election.

“I embrace my duty with pride and honour. Many milestones have been achieved and yet there is still so much we need to accomplish together. Most importantly, our achievement underscores the stability and unity of the strong foundations we have built together in the past decade.”

The AFC President expressed his appreciation to the outgoing members of the AFC Executive Committee and members of the FIFA Council, and congratulated the newly elected members for the 2023-2027 term.
