53 dead in China building collapse, search for trapped ends

BEIJING, May 6 (BNA) A building collapse a week ago in central China killed 53 people, state media reported, Friday, with searches ending in a large pile of rubble after rescuers found 10 survivors.

The state broadcaster CCTV said in an online post that the authorities said in a press conference that the fate of all the missing had been determined as of 3 am.

The apartment and commercial building in Changsha city suddenly collapsed on the afternoon of April 29, according to the Associated Press.

Aerial images showed it split into the second floor among other six-storey buildings.
