5.5 magnitude earthquake hits Northern California

Washington, May 12 (BNA): Today, Thursday, an earthquake struck a wide area in Northern California, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The quake, which occurred at 4:19 p.m., had an initial magnitude of 5.5 and was centered 2 1/2 miles (4 kilometers) southwest of the East Coast, according to the US Geological Survey.


East Shore is a small community on Lake Almanor in Plumas County, located in the Sierra Nevada, according to the Associated Press.


People tweeted that they felt the shaking all the way to Sacramento, about 160 miles (260 kilometers) south.
